Kingston (Jamaica), July 3: West Indian captain Brian Lara showed that he is a bad loser when he attributed his team’s defeat to selection matters, umpiring errors as well as the pitch as he threatened to quit the captaincy.
"I found that I was a selector from the 28th of May only a couple of days ago. I don’t know how that has surfaced, but I got an endorsement letter a couple of days ago saying that I was a selector from the 28th of May," Lara said as he rolled out his first excuse for losing the series.
"My reputation as a captain has been dragged down but in actual fact, I was never given the team I wanted. It was a situation where my hands were tied behind my back," the Windies captain whined.
Then, he attempted blackmail. "There is a meeting coming up in a couple of weeks and depending on the selection, I will definitely revisit my decision to captain the team," he said.
The umpires were next in the firing line. "Daren Ganga played a ball pitching two feet outside the off stump and was given lbw. It should suggest that all wasn’t well," the 37-year-old said.
Even the pitch at Sabina Park was not spared. "The pitch was not ready for such an important match. It seems as if it was totally prepared for the Indians."
