New Delhi, Feb. 19: The run-up to the faction-ridden Rajasthan Cricket Association’s election took another murky turn on Thursday with a district association supporting RCA president Lalit Modi’s complaint to the Supreme Court over the alleged interference of the state government.
"It is submitted that a lot of political influence and bureaucratic pressure is being created on all the district cricket associations by the Rajasthan government so as to create an atmosphere where free and fair elections are not possible without judicial interference," an application filed by the Alwar District Cricket Association alleged.
The Alwar association alleged that the RCA consitution was changed in an arbitrary manner without notice. "The memorandum of rules, bye laws and regulations of RCA which were adopted in its special general meeting on January 27, 2005 and ratified by Registrar on April 27, 2005 were unilaterlly replaced in a collusive manner in pursuance of a conspiracy hatched by the secretary Subhash Joshi with Devaram Chaudhary, Sanjay Dixit and registrar namely Mukesh Sharma within 24 hours," it said.
Chaudhary, related to Rajasthan revenue minister Hema Ram Chaudhary, is contesting the election scheduled for February 23, the application said.
Modi, against whom criminal cases have been lodged by the rival faction led by Kishore Rungta for allegedly abusing his official position, had also questioned the decision of Joshi of announcing the date of elections without holding the annual general meeting.
