Christchurch, Feb. 25: Having beaten the mighty Indians at their own game, New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori was obviously a happy man. Armed with new-found confidence, the Kiwi leader now hopes to take the momentum into the rest of the series. Excerpts:
On the win: There are number of aspects I was pleased with. We were put under immense pressure at the start but the way our bowlers responded to it, and the way they restricted a destructive team like India to 160 was great. Then the chase, McCullum was the rock, and Guptill, Ross Taylor and Jacob Oram played around him. I couldn't really have any complaints.
On the wicket: I think it was a slow wicket. If anything, under lights, it quickens up a bit. And then there is the dew. So it is a touch easier to bat under the lights. It was a pretty good T20 track. The boundaries made it easier to bat.
On the series: You turn out for a fresh game, and you expect to win, no matter the state of the series. The thing is, the guys will take a lot of confidence from this. Guptill continues to impress, he will be feeling good. So will a lot of other guys. But each game is a separate entity.
On Oram's catch: He's a great fielder and did it so calmly. He knew exactly what he was doing. Nothing seems to faze him. It's great to have him back in the side.
On spinners' roles: It is difficult but a huge challenge. I think Harbhajan and myself bowled pretty well. You probably have to change your game a little bit. Sometimes you have to flatten out a little bit because you know a mis-hit can go for a six.
