Wellington, Feb. 26: After his team scripted a stunning win over the fancied Indians, New Zealand coach Andy Moles is obviously over the moon and has put the pressure ball right in India’s court.
"They know we are a good side. They’ve seen us operate last night, and they won’t be taking anything for granted, that’s sure. Let India get on with what they are worried about," he said on Thursday, eve of the second Twenty20 game at the Westpac Stadium here. Excerpts:
On their mood: There’s no need to say anything. They know they are up against a very, very talented Indian side, they’ve got their noses in front, and we want to stay there. It’s a two-match series and we want to win it. It doesn’t take anything from me to get the boys up for the game. They’re looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead of them.
Last night, we didn’t hit the hole we wanted to while bowling, we were good overall in fielding but can be better.
On the small grounds: When we are winning, yeah. After the first over I wasn’t too keen on it. The Indians have so many destructive players but we did really well when we batted yesterday and it’s the same for both sides.
On Brendon McCullum: He just struggled to get going, the wicket was two-paced. He had to play the support role, and saw the side home. It was a good innings. He’ll assess it while he’s out there. He’s a very good all-round player, and in the Twenty20 version, he can play all types of innings.
The mark of good players is that they get a score when they are not on top of their game. And we’ve seen from Brendon that he feels he’s not in the peak of form, but he can still take the responsibility to see the side home and that in itself is a great skill.
