Wellington, Feb. 27: Having guided the Kiwis to two consecutive victories by carrying his bat through, opener Brendon McCullum looked back on his good work.
About the strategy in the last over, he said: "The way Pathan bowled was outstanding at the end. We had to try a little bit different. That’s why I came down the wicket in the last two or three balls, so I could put him under a little bit of pressure. You always hope you get some release with the boundary, and thankfully we were able to do that."
Was his heart in the mouth when the ball bobbed up on the winning stroke? "Yeah, I thought I hit it straight up and it would have been disappointing to bat through the innings and not have won the game. It would have been pretty frustrating," he said.
The hard-hitter vowed to continue the good form in the one-dayers. "Tonight was more satisfying for me than the other night though any time you finish a game for your country you are incredibly satisfied. There’s definitely something there for the one-dayers so hopefully I can try and carry that sort of approach to it," he said.
