Modi files papers for RCA top job

Jaipur, Feb. 23: Lalit Modi on Monday filed his nomination for the president’s post at the Rajasthan Cricket Association in the elections scheduled for March 1 and called for "free and fair" contests.

"The elections should be fair and square. I have been nominated for the post of president and I have accepted the proposal. All I want is free and fair elections. Let all eligible units vote. No one should be debarred from voting," Modi, who is also a Board of Control for Cricket in India vice-president, said. "Some of the districts are opposing me but I am confident of victory. I have some unfinished tasks. I want to spread the game and that is why I want to fight elections," he said. The Modi-led faction filed 41 nominations for the various posts of RCA while the rival faction, led by secretary Subhash Joshi, added four more nominations to their earlier 61. Meanwhile, the second season of the Indian Premier League will kick off in Jaipur with a gala opening ceremony, IPL chairman Lalit Modi disclosed this here on the day.

Modi said Rajasthan Royals’ two home matches would be held in Ahmedabad but the rest of the fixtures will be in Jaipur.
