Record sinks in sixes rain
Christchurch, Feb. 25: To say the game was the winner would sound like a cliché often dished out by the neutral administrators, but Wednesday’s whacker between India and New Zealand at the AMI Stadium surely was one.
The 24 sixes pounded by both teams combined are now the most in a Twenty20 match. For the record, the Indians slammed 13 in their total of 162/8 in 20 overs while the New Zealanders smacked 11 as they replied with 166/3 in 18.5 overs.
The match tally bettered the 20 sixes thumped in a match involving India and Australia at Durban, during the Twenty20 World Cup in 2007. Both teams had contributed 10 sixes each in that game India won by 15 runs.
On Wednesday, Raina led the list with five sixes.
