Mumbai, Feb. 19: Speculation about the Brabourne Stadium as the venue for the final of the second edition of the Indian Premier League ended on Thursday with the IPL’s governing council informing the Cricket Club of India’s executive committee that it was not ready to abide by the club’s terms and was thus withdrawing the match, CCI president Badal Mittal said.
Badal said, "Our ground is available but it is IPL’s decision to not host the final here. I cannot force anybody to host the final at CCI. We were ready to give them the ground only if they could abide by the conditions put forth by the club which they were unable to."
IPL defending champions Rajasthan Royals had the option of venue and CCI topped the list. They will have to move the game to the alternate venue in the city, the DY Patil Stadium, or shift to a completely different centre.
CCI club members were shocked when they learnt that the Extraordinary General Meeting to be held on February 27 to discuss the IPL was called off. "We were really looking forward to watching the final in our club. It is very disappointing," said a member who didn’t wanted to be named.
