Wellington, Feb. 27: Having wrapped up the Twenty20 series 2-0 against India, New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori now wants to go one further and raise the performance bar as the tour moves into the five-match one-day internationals.
"We've still got some execution issues. We can always do them a little better," he said as he attempted to charge his players up.
"The most pleasing aspect has been the top four with the bat, and they get us off to great starts and then finish it. They will be together for a pretty long time, they're all young, so it's exciting times for New Zealand cricket," he said.
Speaking about the upcoming series, Vettori said: "I think our team will be feeling good and it will stay pretty similar for the one-day series. But the Indians have played some great cricket over the last year or so they'll be confident that they can bounce back. We knew right from the start that we would have to compete and play some real good cricket if we want to beat India and that's the mantra that will stay for the one-day series.
"I'm a numbers man so I look at the rankings and see where India are placed and where we are placed. We are pretty close and in our home country we always play pretty well and have a good record," he added.
