Napier, March 29: Having batted almost the entire day on Sunday in an effort to help India save the second Test, batsman Rahul Dravid feels the job is half done and it will require similar application from the other batsmen on the final day.
"We needed a big performance and we have got half the job done," he said after the fourth day’s play. Excerpts:
On the day: It was a big step... a very good day for us. We needed a big performance and we have got half the job done. It’s been a hard-fought day. We have not been put in this situation for a long time actually but we found ourselves with our backs to the wall and needed to show some character. That was good from our point of view that we play different forms of game, we can play the game differently and hope we can keep that going tomorrow. We have had a crazy hour yesterday where we lost six wickets quickly, we’ve got to be aware of that and ensure that it doesn’t happen again.
On Gambhir: Hats off to Gautam for being there through the end of the day, he showed at lot of character. A Test innings like this will go a long way in a young career. He will learn a lot from this innings more than any he has played in his career. This will give him a lot of confidence in showing that he can play, read a situation and can play differently. He will learn a lot from a day like this in Test cricket.
