Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s skilful Indians may have won the first Test purely on their talent but they will do well to remember the fans, in India as well as abroad, who power the superstars to punch above their weight as they conquer new territories.
The Blues, now used to the Indian music being belted out at various stadiums here, were introduced to a new song at Seddon Park in Hamilton during the first Test — I am an India Fan, a fun song for all Indian cricket fans around the world to sing along to and celebrate the abundance of talent.
Set to a catchy tune, the number is a foot-stomper which is sure to get the fans dancing and the players pumping as well. The song has ditties dedicated to individual players such as Zaheer Khan, Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Dhoni, Sehwag, Ishant Sharma and Harbhajan Singh. Robin Uthappa and Sreesanth too are mentioned courtesy being part of the Twenty20 World Cup winning side.
Now, there’s a chance for those with a creative bent of mind to lend their support to it by adding to the lyrics of part 2, which is being composed currently. Cricket aficionados can log on to for further details.
The man behind the show is Jay Kumar, a choreographer based in London. Jay has written the lyric and produced the song with help from friends and Jayanta Pathak, who did all the music arrangements. The duo are planning to release the song by the end of April, in time for the T20 World Cup in UK in June.
"The Indian fans are passionate and I feel that energy can be channeled to make the fans become an uplifting force much the same way that football fans in UK become the ‘12th man’ with their support," Jay told this correspondent over email. Yes, that’s something which the Indian fans would soon be singing, loud and proud.
