Mumbai, April 21: Mumbai Indians were not at full strength in their loss to Bangalore Royal Challengers but the owners are still confident of a comeback in the remaining matches. The absence of local boy and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was keenly felt on Sunday.
Indians’ owner Mukesh Ambani was confident that the target of 166 for Bangalore Royal Challengers was a competitive total.
"I was confident that the team could still win. But Tendulkar was surely missed and also Sanath Jayasuriya’s performance could have been better," added Ambani.
The Indians fumbled in the last couple of overs and were unable to produce a better total. It is said that a game is not over till the last ball bowled and so it was indeed for the Vijay Mallya-owned Royal Challengers.
Challengers’ skipper Rahul Dravid said the win over Mumbai would help his team do well in the matches lined up in the coming days. "This win will be very beneficial for the team," Dravid said at the post match press conference after securing the five-wicket win.
Dravid also said that the five-day rest before their next match would help. "We were a bit peaked this week as we virtually had games back to back. This gives us time to go back home and prepare for the next match," he said.
Mumbai Indians skipper Harbhajan Singh was satisfied with his captaincy and felt that one loss would not make too much of a difference. "I am happy with the team’s effort and this one loss cannot shake us. I am impressed by young paceman Dhawal Kulkarni for his good show in the match," Bhajji added.
"Dhawal is young and has good potential and I expect him to play for the national team one day," felt coach Lalchand Rajput and added that Tendulkar’s fate would be known in the next two-three days.
