Kings to dare the devils

Durban, April 22: Chennai Super Kings, who got their Indian Premier League campaign back on track with a thumping win over Royal Challengers Bangalore, will look to continue their winning run when they face the Delhi Daredevils here on Thursday.

Super Kings charge will be led by ’orange cap’ holder Matthew Hayden, who has looked in sublime touch in this tournament against the formidable batting line-up of the Daredevils.

The retired Aussie opener is the current leading scorer, after smashing the second-fastest fifty in IPL en route his 35-ball 65 and in company with Parthiv Patel plundered 106 runs for the opening wicket against Bangalore. Daredevils also have some in-form batsmen in their ranks with skipper Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir looking in ominous touch in their 10-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab in a rain-shortened encounter. The Delhi duo plundered 58 runs in 4.5 overs to signal their intentions to the opposition.

With spinners dominating the game so far, Thursday’s match will also be a clash between New Zealander Daniel Vettori and Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan, both scalping three wickets in their last matches.

The pundits’ favourites, Delhi also boast of some quality players like big hitter David Warner and old warhorse Glenn McGrath, who are still to make an appearance in IPL-2.

Chennai have some fine all-rounders in England’s Andrew Flintoff and South African Albie Morkel and with left-hander Suresh Raina also finding form with a valuable 28 against Bangalore, there doesn’t seem to be a major chink in their batting line-up.

Among the pacemen, the Daredevils will depend on the exuberance of Indian youngsters Pradeep Sangwan, Yo Mahesh and Australian Dirk Nannes, while the Super Kings attack is led by Manpreet Gony, Laxmipathi Balaji and all-rounders Flintoff and Morkel.
