Port Elizabeth, April 25: High on confidence after two successive victories, Delhi Daredevils will strive to continue with the winning momentum while a struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore will try to recapture the lost sheen they started with in the Indian Premier League when the two teams lock horns here on Sunday.
The Delhi team, by virtue of their back-to-back wins against Kings XI Punjab and last year’s runner-up Chennai Super Kings, are comfortably placed second in the points tally.
In contrast, the Vijay Mallya-owned Bangalore outfit tamed defending champions Rajasthan Royals in their campaign-opener but have lacked the consistency since then with three defeats on the trot to be placed seventh in the table.
The Daredevils will surely count on their formidable batting line-up with skipper Virender Sehwag joining hands with his Team India opening partner Gautam Gambhir to start the innings, followed by South Africa batsman AB de Villers.
The Protea played anchor with his 54-ball 105 to guide the Daredevils to victory in their last match against the Super Kings and the team will look to him to carry on in like form on Sunday. With cricketers like Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan, wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, Bengal boy Manoj Tewari and New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori in their ranks, the Delhi batting line-up will be a hard nut to crack.
In the bowling department, Delhi cricketer Pradeep Sangwan who scalped 3/28 in his last outing, is likely to find support from the new-ball pair of Australian Dirk Nannes and India-discard Ashish Nehra. Interestingly, the side have not utilised the services of their most experienced bowler Glenn McGrath.
Besides, the experienced Vettori will also add to the worry of the Kevin Pietersen-led Bangalore side, who were handed a seven-wicket drubbing by the Punjab team on Friday.
