We’ll try to salvage points: Gilly

By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Hyderabad, May 11: Having lost their seventh game in the IPL, Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist finally gave up hopes of qualifying for the semifinals and said the team would now try to salvage some points to end up a bit higher on the league table.

"We are pretty much out of the semis and at a stage where we can’t change anything. We will try and salvage something out of this tournament," Gilchrist said after Sunday’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The left-hander saw a silver lining over the cloud though. "There have been some positives. The way Venugopal played was brilliant," he said referring to the former India batsman’s unbeaten 71 towards the end.

Gilchrist felt the game slipped away in the last six overs of the Kolkata innings. "We gave away 100 runs in those six overs," he said. "But I am not singling out any individual. We as a team gave away those runs. We take responsibility for the defeat," he quickly added. Digging deeper into the team’s misfortune, Gilchrist said "the team is doing about 75 per cent of the basics right."

"Now, we have to sit down and analyse the drawbacks and move forward.

"We have gelled well as a team but it’s unfortunate that only one player has been able to click every time. We will address this issue and change things around," he said.

"It’s all about learning, and tough situations are best for learning," he signed off.
