Kirsten waits for his 'boys'

Mumbai, May 29: Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his boys, who left for London by British Airways flight number BA 0198 on Friday afternoon, need not worry about pitches and weather conditions in England. That information has been kept ready for them by Team India coach Gary Kirsten.

"The coach is not travelling with the team. He has been in England for the last 10 days," a senior member of the team said.

"Kirsten did not join the team members in Mumbai. Instead he has preferred to be in England where he also had some business-related work. Kirsten will inspect the wickets at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, where India are to play both Group A matches against Bangladesh (June 6) and Ireland (June 10)."

Kirsten has his own academy in Cape Town.

"Host countries prepare wickets to suit their bowlers and we expect ‘good wickets’ in England," skipper M.S. Dhoni said before leaving.

Team India have been concerned over paceman Zaheer Khan’s availability for the World Twenty20, but the 31-year-old left-arm medium pacer has also left for England.

"Though Venkatesh Prasad is a fast bowling coach, members of the team also seek Zaheer Khan’s advice on tours and Dhoni didn’t want to leave out an ‘unfit’ Zaheer," the source added.

Team physio Nitin Patel is working on Zaheer’s shoulder injury, it is understood.
