JOHANNESBURG, May 20: Delhi skipper Virender Sehwag at the start of the tournament had spoken on the importance of maintaining a winning momentum. His team selection against Bangalore on Tuesday suggested little of that. It was a clear case of the tournament leaders dropping guard.
Sehwag however, was in no mood to agree. The Delhi skipper came up with his own set of explanations after the game. Excerpts:
On Delhi taking it easy: It was nothing like that, we were trying to make sure that a lot of the reserve players get a chance to play before the semifinal. It is important that we give everyone a chance because it is quite easy for players to get frustrated by sitting out. Yes I agree we were a bit relaxed. But I am hopeful of the team doing well in the coming matches.
On his and Gambhir’s lack of runs: We always go out there to do well and it does not always go that way. We will keep trying. I think we are just one innings away from getting back into form. Last year we were in good nick and the middle-order failed. These things happen. And as long as we are winning I am not really worried about my own form.
On experiments against Mumbai: We will try one more change either in batting or bowling. We will try and play our full side. Winning is important and so is gaining momentum. We know the importance of being in good nick before the semifinal.
On losing momentum: We have never lost two games in a row. So momentum is very much there. Sometimes we have played really well, sometimes one mistake can cost you. If Yogesh Nagar was not hit for many in that over the match would have been close. I am happy we are in the semifinal and not really worried whom we will be up against.
On bowlers easing off: That is not the case. I am not able to bowl because of my finger injury. I have five bowlers and they are bowling well. It has worked well barring, as I said earlier, that one over from Yogesh.
