Shipperd wants more foreigners

V. BALAJI

Johannesburg, May 21: Delhi Daredevils coach Greg Shipperd has pitched for an additional foreigner in some of the games to spice up the IPL in future.

A problem of plenty in the Delhi team has forced Shipperd to leave Glenn McGrath and at times Daniel Vettori has also warmed the bench since franchisees can only avail of four imports in the starting XI.

"With the four overseas players rule and us needing to beef our batting up with overseas players there is often one bowling spot left. It is difficult and embarrassing for me to go to Glenn McGrath and say ‘Sorry mate we haven’t picked you in the team’," Shipperd told the IPL’s official website.

Without McGrath, Vettori and even skipper Virender Sehwag in a few games, Delhi reached the semi-finals with ease.

While this is good news for the coach, Shipperd still wants the IPL to try out something to give international stars like McGrath and Vettori an opportunity while at the same time not compromising on domestic talent. "This is testament to the group that goes out and the mission that they have. There are a lot of fabulous players sitting on benches, not playing the game," he said.
