Mumbai, May 30: While Team India coach Gary Kirsten — in London since last ten days — is ready with the pitch information, team’s physical and mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton will test the fatigue level of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s boys ahead of the World T20 championship.
"I shall have individual sessions with the players," Upton told this paper as the Indian team went through the paces at Lord’s on Saturday.
"There will be a few group sessions as well. I know most of the players have just returned from the IPL, but they know how to take the burden off their shoulders," he added.
Anything in excess is harmful, believes Australian psychologist Sandy Gordon. "In all professional sports prolonged competitive seasons are emotionally draining for management, coaches as well as players. It may lead to a sense of detachment, and jolt the players’ confidence," he said from Australia.
"In the long run, contemporary sport organisations should involve acknowledgement of the negative impact of cramped schedules — for both the integrity of the game, and the players whose psychological well-being is rarely considered," Gordon added.
