London, June 20: Call it West Indian attitude to life but captain Chris Gayle was at his humourous best after losing the World Twenty20 championship semifinal to Sri Lanka at the Oval on Friday. "I guess this is a real farewell for Chris Gayle boy. A full house," he said, as he sashayed into a packed press conference hall.
Asked whether he will put his money on Sri Lanka or Pakistan in Sunday’s final, Gayle giggled. "I don’t have any money, man, I’m broke to be honest with you."
The Jamaican felt the team did well to make the semifinals. "I am actually proud of the guys and the team for reaching the semis. It was a fine team effort," he said.
The Caribbeans were now looking to focus on the four-game ODI series against India, starting June 26. "It’ll be another tough series and hopefully it will give the Caribbean people something to cheer about," he said.
Gayle got a bit of legendary boxer Mohammed Ali when he told his fans that the team "will fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee. We’ll be back."
"They are very hard to please and the only thing they take is victory. It’s good actually to put a bit of smile on their faces but tough luck to the fans. I’ll say to them, keep supporting and stop cursing," Gayle said.
