New Delhi, June 19: Opening batsman Virender Sehwag could miss the Champions Trophy in South Africa beginning September 24. Sehwag underwent surgery on June 11 after a lesion was identified in his shoulder, and is expected to be out of action for around 12 to 16 weeks. He will be under the observation of team physio Nitin Patel at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
Sehwag sustained the injury during Delhi Daredevils’ IPL semifinal against Deccan Chargers on May 21.
Suspense over the Delhi batsman’s injury during the World T20 championships Cup led to reports of a rift between him and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
