Karachi, June 22: After almost a year of flip-flop leading to his complex legal wrangles with the Indian Cricket League, the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohammad Yousuf returned to national fold on Monday as the selectors announced a 15-member squad for the tour of Sri Lanka which begins next week.
In-form all-rounder Shahid Afridi has opted out of the Tests but will return for the one-day series after some rest.
Spinner Danish Kaneria and batsman Khurrum Manzoor, who made his debut for Pakistan in this year’s home Test series against Sri Lanka, were also recalled in the touring side, which has a lone new face in pacer Abdur Rauf. Yousuf became the second Pakistan player after all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, who featured in the recently concluded World Twenty20 championships, to play for the country after severing links with the rebel league.
The newly crowned T20 World Champions will play three Tests, five one-day internationals and a one-off T20 match during the Sri Lanka tour.
Yousuf, who last played a Test in December 2007 against India and an ODI in July 2008, joined the ICL only to be barred from representing the national team but was later coaxed back to the mainstream by the PCB and the IPL, which resulted in the ICL dragging him to the court. — PTI
