KOLKATA, July 25: The future certainly appears bright for Sourav Ganguly. After creating a sensation of sorts with his decision to step into cricket administration, the ex-India skipper is now set to return as the Kolkata Knight Riders captaincy as well for IPL III.
Although KKR officials and Ganguly himself refused to comment on the authenticity of the matter (citing no confirmation from the management), sources suggested that everything had been finalised as the official announcement was likely to be made on August 3 at team franchise owner Shah Rukh Khan’s residence.
"Both Sourav and Shah Rukh will be meeting up at Mannat on the 3rd of August where an official announcement on the captaincy and the new coach will be made. The decision was taken after the duo met up in London a week ago," a source close to KKR told this paper.
After the axing of the ‘maverick’ John Buchanan, KKR have had their eyes set on former New Zealand opener John Wright as their new coach. Though Dav Whatmore’s name too was doing the rounds, it is believed that Wright will have the last laugh because of his successful partnership with Ganguly.
