KOLKATA, Aug. 22: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has been appointed chairman of the newly-formed Cricket Development Committee of the Cricket Association of Bengal. Ex-cricketers Arun Lal, Ashok Malhotra and former national selector (during the period of Ganguly’s dropping from Team India in 2005) Pranab Roy have been included in the committee.
After the CAB working committee met here on Saturday, president Jagmohan Dalmiya pointed out to an assessment of the selectors (both senior and junior) as a the key role of the new committee apart from preparing a master-plan for overall improvement of the game. Dalmiya said the committee would also deal with the issues of umpiring standards and technical aspects of all tournaments conducted by the CAB.
Ganguly has already had discussions with Sambaran Banerjee — head of CAB’s senior selection committee — on the current Bengal team, especially wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who Ganguly thinks deserves special attention and a place in the national team.
