KOLKATA, Aug. 21: Kolkata Knight Riders, in their hunt for John Buchanan’s replacement, will conduct a series of interviews of coaches starting from Saturday with ex-Pakistan coach Richard Pybus. Alongside Pybus, the names of John Wright, Lalchand Rajput and former England allrounder Dermott Reeve are also in the fray.
Speaking to a cricket based website, Pybus confirmed that he would meet KKR officials in Mumbai on Saturday. "The main thing is I am coming out to meet the owners of KKR and understand what their expectations are and find out what the lay of the land is on that side," Pybus said.
"I hope to find out what they are looking for and to see whether that meets up with what I am looking for. It really is a fact-finding weekend from my side," he added.
At the moment, it appears it could be a toss-up between Pybus and Reeve as both of them were in charge of teams that won their respective domestic Twenty20 championships last year. As per indications from a KKR official, a coach’s past experience of handling his team in the T20 format could well be a plus point. In that sense, Rajput too may have his way as he coached India to the inaugural World T20 title back in 2007. "All coaches who are going to be interviewed have illustrious records. So, in that case, each of them stands a good chance."
