Kolkata, Sept. 2: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Saturday reserved special mention for wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni while praising the performance of the young guns in the national team. "The youngsters are doing very well for the team. Dhoni, particularly is superb," Ganguly said after a practice session here on the day. Asked about his plans to force his way back into the Indian team, he said: "There is no option other than performing well. The selectors always look for performances."
Incidentally, Ganguly on a recent television interview said that he was "good enough to play for India."
The Bengal left-hander said that he had not received any call from the selectors since his return from Northamptonshire. "They (selectors) have a packed schedule. They are busy people," Ganguly said, with a hint of sarcasm.
Ganguly’s forthcoming assignment will be the Moin-ud-Dowla Trophy in Hyderabad. He had been offered the Bengal captaincy for the tournament, which he had turned down. He reiterated that he had no problems playing under Deep Dasgupta. "I am not at all concerned about this. I did not turn out regularly for the state side last year," he said.
About his batting position, Ganguly said: "Earlier I have batted at number four and five. I also opened in the Duleep Trophy. I haven’t spoken to the Bengal captain, but I am ready to bat at any position the team management wants me to do. I want to do well and help Bengal."
