PCB to raise tampering issue at ICC meeting

Karachi, Sept. 22: Pakistan Cricket Board will take up the ball tampering issue at the International Cricket Council’s Chief Executives’ Meeting in Dubai on September 24-25 although it is not listed on the agenda.

A PCB official said they would try to brief the chief executives on Pakistan’s stand and why it did what it did after the umpires accused the team of ball-tampering during the Oval Test.

"It is a good opportunity to set the record straight and we will not waste it," he said.

Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul Haq is set to appear before ICC’s disciplinary hearing on September 28-29 in London. He faces the charges of bringing the game into disrepute and tampering the ball in the Oval Test against England.

The official also said that among the 18 points on the agenda for the meeting, was the issue of compensation to boards for unequal tours.

"In some cases under the future tours programme one team hosts another for say two Tests and three one-dayers but then has to go to that country and play three Tests and five one-dayers. That is what is meant by unequal length and duration of tours," he said.

He said the committee would debate on whether countries not getting equal number of matches should have the right to claim compensation.
