Hyderabad, Sept. 5: Sourav Ganguly has a point to prove. After being ignored once again by the selectors for the Tri Series in Malaysia and the Champions Trophy, the former India captain, who is here to play for Bengal in the Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket championship, is determined to hit big time in domestic cricket and regain his place in the Indian team.
At the Gymkhana Grounds on Tuesday, all eyes were on Sourav as he prepared for the second round match against Mumbai beginning on Wednesday, even as a battery of media personnel waited for a byte. It was disappointment, however for them as the left-hander chose not to speak.
Sourav, who will play under former International Deep Dasgupta, will leave no stone unturned to make an impact after his not-so- impressive show with Northampton in England. He had said that there is still a lot of cricket in him and he would like to make the best use of every opportunity in domestic cricket.
Mumbai will be led by Test opener Wasim Jaffer.
Players like V.V.S. Laxman, Hemang Badani, Rohan Gavaskar, Y. Venugopala Rao, L. Balaji, Tinu Yohanan and Sairaj Bahatule will try and make most of the chance they get.
The other matches slated for Wednesday are: Chemplast vs Hyderabad Cricket Association Presidents’ XI at NFC Ground; Maharashtra Vs. KSCA at AOC Centre Ground; Railways vs MRF at RRC I: HCA XI vs Vidarbha at Uppal: Andhra vs TNCA at HMWSSB; India Cements vs Assam at RRC II; The USA Colts vs Tripura match will be played from Thursday at the ECIL Ground.
