Centurion, Sept. 28: Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori is obviously as good with figures as he is with the ball and occasionally the bat. Having run up a massive 315 en route to a 38-run victory over Sri Lanka in a Group B league game of the 2009 Champions Trophy at the Wanderers, he said, "We’ve got 17 scores over 300 and we’ve won all of them so it’s a nice record that we have."
"But whenever you have Dilshan, Jayasuriya, Sangakkara and Jayawardena in the top four you are wary of their skills. But I think we maintained the pressure and were on top most of the time, but just couldn’t kill it off until the end."
Vettori, man of the match for his run a ball 48 and 2/45, added: "It’s a crucial win and obviously keeps us alive in the tournament and that’s the most important bit. But I think the manner of the win is something that is really pleasing."
For his part, Sangakkara said Lanka had let themselves down with some poor fielding, and they now needed help from other teams if they are to get to the semifinals.
