London, Oct. 1: The Pakistan Cricket Board could be asked to cough up £800,000 as compensation following the Oval Test forfeiture, according to a report in the British media on Sunday.
It was likely that within the next few days the PCB will receive formal notification from England and Wales Cricket Board of costs incurred by the abandonment of the Test, The Times daily said. Spectators who attended the infamous fourth day of the fourth Test received a 40 per cent refund on their ticket price from ECB.
Fans who had bought tickets for the fifth day, which never took place, were given a total refund.
However, the report said, PCB was unlikely to agree to meet all of the costs. "The PCB believes (umpire Darrell) Hair was responsible for the abandonment of the Test and thus it is the ICC who should pay," it said.
"Pakistan already feel that they have incurred considerable costs because of the code-of-conduct hearing. They have also suffered financially in the recent past with tours to Pakistan being cancelled because of security fears."
