Centurion, Oct. 4: Ricky Ponting sounded a clear warning to his opponents in Monday’s 2009 Champions Trophy final at the SuperSport Park here, saying he was happy with the way his team had gone so far in their one-day international campaigns, first in England and now here.
Australia demolished England by a massive nine-wickets here on Friday and now line up against New Zealand who beat Pakistan by five wickets at the Wanderers on Saturday, the first time the bitter trans-Tasman rivals face each other in a tournament of this magnitude. "We’re happy with the way we’ve played our one-day cricket over the last three or four weeks," Ponting said after nets here on the day. "It’s been about making sure we were ready for the big moments. We were in the semi-final, and we’ll make sure we’re ready for the big moments tomorrow as well."
Asked if he had followed the Wanderers game on Saturday, Ponting replied, "I’m not a big cricket-watcher, I must admit, especially when I’ve got a day off. A lot of the guys, though, did sit back and watch the game last night, to watch how both sides played and what they were doing.
"The Kiwis have upset a few along the way. Listening to the pre-game stuff yesterday morning, there was hardly anyone who gave them any sort of hope. We know that they’ve always been a very competitive one-day unit. I think their record in these sort of events over the last 10 years speaks for itself."
He however, added: "We’ve had a great deal of success against New Zealand over the last few years, so hopefully that will continue for us tomorrow."spectacular.
