Dubai, Oct. 19: There is a chance that a team from Pakistan will participate in the second edition of the Champions League Twenty20 next year, it is learnt.
Pakistani players were not allowed to participate in the IPL-2 and the inaugural edition of CL T20 due to estranged relations with India over the terror strikes in Mumbai earlier this year.
According to sources close to the organisers, if the Champions League T20 is not hosted by India then it may be staged either in England or South Africa next year.
Keeping in mind that both are neutral venues, there is a possibility that a domestic side from Pakistan may be allowed to play in the cash-rich tournament. "Without doubt we want a Pakistan team in the event," Lalit Modi had said earlier, adding "They are not able to play in the sub-continent, but if we move to another country they can play."
The England and Wales Cricket Board has not been approached so far to host next year’s event due to inclement weather in September but Modi is likely to keep all options open with the last one-dayer between England and Pakistan to be held on September 22.
The ongoing CL T20 has teams from Australia, England, India, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
