Hyderabad, Oct. 21: It will be a contest that will go down to the wire as the big boys — Trinidad & Tobago and Cape Cobras — sweat it out in the second semifinal of the Champions League Twenty20 tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Thursday.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, T&T skipper Daren Ganga said, "We are looking forward to the game as it will be a knockout for both the teams. We will go into the match without bothering about what we have done in the past few games as it will have little meaning to the outcome of the match on Thursday."
His opposite number, Andrew Puttick echoed similar sentiments. "It’s a massive game for us and we will go all out against our opposition," Puttick said.
Asked if he was worried about the loss to Delhi Daredevils in the previous game, he said, "Not really. We will concentrate our energies on the match that is coming up rather than what happened before in the tournament."
Ganga spelt out the success mantra of his men, who have outsmarted one team after another in this tournament. "Right from our first match, we have treated every game as a final. We would like to keep it that way," he said. When asked whether opener Herschelle Gibbs’s form was a worry, Puttick said, "Herschelle has always been an enigma. We don’t know what he will come up with on a given day. But, he is a class act and we expect him to fire soon."
With excellent individual performances from both teams, the two captains felt that the Indian Premier League bosses will be eyeing a few players in their respective teams to be part of the next season of the premier tournament. "It will be a great experience for some of our guys to play in India," said Puttick.
On his part, Ganga said, "Some of the guys in our team have been approached by a few teams but it is too early to talk about them."
