GUWAHATI, Nov. 7: If Australia win Sunday’s sixth ODI, the series victory will be doubly sweet as they are without a significant section of their regulars on the ongoing tour of India. Without doubt, the Bollingers and McKays deserve kudos for having denied the star-studded Indian batting line-up two matches in a row and putting their team on the threshold of yet another series victory over India.
The exposure that these fast bowlers have gained so far only adds to the depth of the Australian squad, feels vice-captain Mike Hussey. "It’s always good to give more opportunities to new guys.
"Injuries, particularly to key players are no doubt, disappointing. But at the same time, a fresh group of players were itching to get an opportunity and translate that into success, which would only add to the depth in our side. Also, their exposure will create lots of options for us before the World Cup."
However, the team’s sole focus now is to seal the series here and not to keep things pending for Mumbai. "Another tight game lies ahead tomorrow where we stand a great chance to wrap up proceedings. It’s a big motivation for all the players who are geared up for the contest," Hussey said.
Given the conditions here, the team management is in two minds when it comes to the decision after winning the toss. "I think it may be a good toss to lose," Hussey quipped, adding, "We need to ensure that whatever we do, we do it well enough. If we bat first, we should look to be cautious in the first 10 overs and then press on the accelerator. If we field first, taking early wickets is imperative."
