Mumbai, Nov. 10: The fickle Mumbai weather could play spoilsport for the Sri Lankans as they prepare to take on Board President’s XI in a three-day warm-up match beginning here from Wednesday, ahead of their three-Test series against India.
Both sides practised for two hours on the day before a steady drizzle sent the players off the field at the Mumbai Cricket Association ground in Bandra here.
The Bandra Kurla ground pitch has always favoured the batsmen and on Wednesday, the team winning the toss would look to bat first. Sri Lanka XI, led by Kumar Sangakkara, will be eager to get some runs under their belt in the lead-up to the Test series.
Board President’s XI are led by Mumbai batsman Rohit Sharma with Robin Uthappa as his deputy. India hopefuls Sharma, Uthappa, Abhishek Nayar and Ajinkya Rahane toiled in the nets under the supervision of coach Sandip Patil.
"It’s a good opportunity for us to showcase our talent against an international side. They are a good bowling unit, but as a captain I have told my boys not to worry much about opponents and play their natural game," said Rohit on the eve of the game.
Delhi seamer Pradeep Sangwan and Bengal’s Ashok Dinda had lengthy net sessions, before spinners Pragyan Ojha and Piyush Chawla came on to bowl.
