Mumbai resume campaign

BY SHARDA WADHWA

Mumbai, Dec. 1: Mumbai, who top the table in Group A of the Ranji Trophy Elite Division with 15 points, will be on the lookout for a win when they take on Hyderabad in their postponed game at the Bandra-Kurla Complex ground here from Tuesday.

The team had a a surprise visitor when Sachin Tendulkar dropped in during practice on Monday where he had a word with members of the squad and also spent some time in the nets with them.

After a less than impressive display against Saurashtra in their last outing, Mumbai have brought in Rohit Sharma and Vinayak Mane (who replaces the off-colour Sahil Kukreja), while Hyderabad will be missing V.V.S. Laxman and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha because of injury.

In Laxman’s absence, caused by a heel injury picked up in the course of his double-hundred against Rajasthan, Arjun Yadav will lead Hyderabad.

For his part, Ojha suffered shoulder injury while fielding in the Cuttack ODI against England.

Mumbai skipper Wasim Jaffer said that they had to make the most of playing at home and needed to build good partnership at the top. "Sahil has been struggling in the last few games and we have failed to get a good opening partnership," Jaffer said.

Hyderabad coach Kawaljit Singh said that his team were upbeat too and said he had advised his boys not to make too much of the big names in the opposition.

"Though we don’t have big names in our teams, the boys are motivated and raring to go out and play. The only advice I have given them is to forget the big names in the Mumbai team and just go out to perform," said Kawaljit.

Considering the open ground and grass on the wicket. Ajit Agarkar, Usman Malvi and Dhaval Kulkarni are the three seamers Mumbai will go with, while M.P. Arjun, S.M. Shoaib and Ashwin Yadav will lead the Hyderabad attack.
