Wellington, Dec. 6: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar said that it was a dream come true for him to see India in the number one spot in the Test rankings.
"We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. The last 18-20 months have been very good for us. This is a reflection of what we have been able to achieve in that period.
"It is a special day for me, and all the Indians. It is great to be sitting at the top," he said, after India completed an innings and 24-run win in the third and final Test at the Brabourne Stadium here on Sunday, clinching the three-match Test series 2-0.
Tendulkar said that the victory was a result of a team effort. "I think the batting has lived up to expectations, the bowlers have done a wonderful job, the fielders have taken the catches. I don’t want to pinpoint at a particular thing. It is a team sport and it will always be a team sport," he said.
Tendulkar added that the team would look to continue their winning run and try to stay at the top of the rankings for as long as possible. "The process started a long time ago and we have to follow the same process. We don’t have to do anything different," he said.
He praised coach Gary Kristen and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who have been working hard with the team for the past two years to claim the top position.
"We have worked hard and Gary’s (Kirsten) inputs have been vital. The other support staff members also contributed, and also the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. I would say that the whole team got together and worked hard," Tendulkar said.
Asked whether the current lot was the best team he had played with, Tendulkar said comparisons were unfair.
"I don’t want to compare because I feel all Indian teams that I have been a part of, were great. I respect all the players I played with. I wouldn’t want to compare. We all know how good the batting line-up is and that has been our major force."
